Conventional wisdom often paints the power sector as a “game for the big boys” – but in the country’s lofty ‘energy transition’ goal, even the “David-like players” are leading the way.
They may not be as gigantic as their counterpart-conglomerates in terms of track record and longevity, financial muscle and even human resources, but several start-ups or emerging companies in the renewable energy (RE) sector are equally razor-sharp and passionate about advancing their blueprinted projects to commercial developments. And on the bigger facet of business goalposts, there is that fervent desire for these companies to become part of the country’s elusive quest for energy security and sustainability that are heavily anchored on protecting the environment.
Malacañang has expressed sympathies over the passing of the late Press Secretary and Manila Bulletin editor-in-chief and publisher Crispulo "Jun" Icban Jr.
(MANILA BULLETIN)
To us, Mr. Icban was not only the editor-in-chief of Manila Bulletin, he was an icon in Philippine journalism respected by government and private sector leaders, adored like a rock star by journalism students who had the privilege to sit in one of his impromptu lectures, and in the newsroom, he was the boss who started the afternoon with the story conference.
Last Monday, April 5, 2021, our treasure and national icon in journalism, Crispulo M. Icban Jr., passed away. He was 85 years old.
It would be an understatement to say that he had touched many lives. In the 47 years that he worked with the Manila Bulletin, Mr. Icban had inspired at least two generations of working journalists and could-have-been newsmen.

In an advisory posted on its social media pages, the TPB said it will continue to refrain from endorsing applications for the 50 percent RT-PCR test subsidy at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PCMC) and the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) from April 5 to 11.
This was after the government decided to extend the prevailing enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila, Laguna, Bulacan, Cavite, and Rizal–collectively known as “NCR-plus”– during the same period.
TPB said it will resume providing endorsements to their partner hospitals on Friday, April 9, for those scheduled to depart from April 12 onwards.
