(Photo from AKM-PUP) On February 5, the Mandaluyong Regional Trial Court dismissed illegal firearms possession charges against Salem, editor of independent media Manila Today, stating that authorities had improperly used contradictory witness testimony to obtain the search warrant that led to her arrest on December 10. Salem was arrested in her home in Mandaluyong during the commemoration of Human Rights Day. In a statement, Alyansa ng Kabataang Mamamahayag ng PUP (AKM-PUP) said “no reason” could ever justify Salem’s continuous detainment. “It is nothing but a chase against the truth-tellers, playing cat and mouse in the state’s pursuit to silence the critical independent journalists in their voyage to expose impunity,” the statement read.

5% biodiesel blend to save P13-B in foreign exchange

Philippines, China approve 8 research projects for funding in 2021 Published February 24, 2021 10:11pm The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) under China’s Joint Research Program on Wednesday approved eight research projects for funding for 2021. According to the DOST, the projects will be implemented within two years. The Philippine side will have an annual R&D fund of P8 million while the Chinese side will have an annual fund of P1 million. The agency said the eight research proposals were chosen out of 37 capsule proposals submissions from Filipino researchers across the country. Meanwhile, the project which topped the list is the “Green Oil and Phytochemicals from Cashew,” a project of the DOST-Industrial Technology Development Institute.
