Help to make Covid-19 vaccines safer – Report any vac

Phase 2 of South Africa’s Covid-19 vaccine roll-out, aiming to vaccinate citizens over the age of 60, is under way and people are being asked to report any mild, moderate or severe adverse events experienced after receiving their jabs. A virus isolate was taken from an infected patient and grown in the lab under safe and controlled conditions. Dr Tasnim Suliman, associate lecturer in virology at UWC and a post-doctoral research fellow working under Professor Megan Shaw, an influenza expert – in collaboration with Professor Wolfgang Preiser, SU s head of medical virology – has been growing and studying the virus in the laboratory since then.

First she was told the vaccines were frozen and she would not be allowed in. She was then told to return to the vaccination site the following day.
