Climate news and personal actions

2022 last chance to slash emissions to avoid 2C? https://t.co/Lf3RhNlay1 If emissions keep rising we ll be on target to hit 2C in the 2030s (2034 at the earliest according to this analysis which uses a conservative 19th century baseline and looks at the latest climate models which may underestimate Arctic heating and feedbacks).https://t.co/qr9KNHhyol From that last link, Under the Paris Agreement adopted in 2015, virtually all the world’s nations pledged to limit global warming to “well below” 2C above pre-industrial levels and also, if possible, “pursue” efforts to cap warming at 1.5C. At present, the world is not close to being on track to meet either target.

Lifting More Weights Could Work Wonders for Your Sleep Quality

Researchers looked at over 23,000 adults in Germany, collecting data on their weekly frequency of resistance exercise and sleep quality. They found that any muscle-strengthening done during a typical week was associated with a reduced prevalence of sleep rated as “poor” or “very poor.” These associations remained after adjusting for other factors like high body mass index, chronic disease, age, and smoking. Also, there was no evidence of a dose-dependent relationship, which means more was not necessarily better. Those who did resistance training just once a week had a similar, favorable association in sleep quality to those who did this type of training more often, even those who strength-trained five times a week.

The reporting in this article about this riot in Whangamata is part of the issue. At no stage does it address the issue of this class A drug s vice like grasp over the levers of control in this country. The liquor industry, politicians and a liberal culture is responsible for this. While I agree with the words Sandra Goudie about rich self-indulgent teenagers, it would be interesting to see what her voting record is on alcohol.

Jamus Lim looks back: It has been a significant learning experience

- Advertisement - Singapore—Dr Jamus Lim, Member of Parliament for Sengkang GRC, penned a thoughtful post looking back at the past year, noting that it’s been  “a significant learning experience” for him as a newcomer to the country’s political arena. The Workers’ Party’s Dr Lim, an assistant professor in Economics at ESSEC Business School, arguably had the most stellar rise to fame among all the new politicians this year. Many Singaporeans paid attention to Dr Lim during July’s General Election, especially after his performance in a televised debate. Despite coming face to face with candidates from different parties who were older and had far more experience than he did, including longtime PAP MP and Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Dr Lim’s intelligence shone through.
