Associate Professor Mark Ryan, a lecturer in film, screen and animation, and a chief investigator with QUT’s Digital Media Research Centre, argues the study of film genre has been long overlooked in Australian film studies and deserves more attention. He adds that despite some exceptions, critics in the past have largely relegated local genre films to B-movie status and celebrated Australian movies that contributed to a sense of national identity and history; films like Sunday Too Far Away, Breaker Morant, and Gallipoli.

  Amsterdam-headquartered digital banking software provider Backbase has recently appointed Iman Ghodosi as Regional Vice President for the Asia Pacific region. The new role is based in Sydney and will see Ghodosi drive the company’s international expansion, product development, and Asia Pacific market growth. He has a wealth of experience in the industry, previously the Vice President and General Manager for Asia Pacific at Zuora. Ghodosi has also worked at organizations including SAP, Oracle, and Netsuite. Ghodosi holds an MBA from the University of Newcastle in Australia and a Master of e-business from the University of Southern Queensland. In recent months, Backbase has scaled up international hiring, adding over 600 employees in the first two quarters of 2021.

University of Southern Queensland post-graduate student Christine Blanchard is successfully combining her day job with doctoral studies to make her corner of the world more environmentally prosperous. As the Waste Coordinator for the Lockyer Valley Regional Council, Christine is involved in trial funding under the State Government’s Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) program. “The trial will be based on providing 900 households in Gatton and Laidley with an additional rubbish bin that’s specifically for food scraps and garden waste,” Christine said.
