Photodetection spanning the short-, mid-, and long-wave infrared (SWIR-LWIR) underpins modern science and technology. Devices using state-of-the-art narrow bandgap semiconductors require complex manufacturing, high costs, and cooling requirements that remain prohibitive for many applications. We report high-performance infrared photodetection from a donor-acceptor conjugated polymer with broadband SWIR-LWIR operation. Electronic correlations within the π-conjugated backbone promote a high-spin ground state, narrow bandgap, long-wavelength absorption, and intrinsic electrical conductivity. These previously unobserved attributes enabled the fabrication of a thin-film photoconductive detector from solution, which demonstrates specific detectivities greater than 2.10 × 109 Jones. These room temperature detectivities closely approach those of cooled epitaxial devices. This work provides a fundamentally new platform for broadly applicable, low-cost, ambient temperature infrared optoelectro
Other Editors: NCAA was wise to back away

The NCAA was right to back off its threat to not allow any of its baseball and softball tournament games to be played in states that have enacted transgender-unfriendly laws.
Both Ole Miss and Mississippi State University are beneficiaries of the NCAA’s decision, as they began hosting four-team baseball regionals Friday. So peripherally is this state’s other major baseball power, the University of Southern Mississippi, whose team and fans only had to travel as far as Oxford for the Golden Eagles’ tournament action.

Two board members for The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) chapter of the Association of Office Professionals (AOP) earned awards during the spring for academic achievement and outstanding service and support.
Award recipients include the following:
Cindy Walker, administrative specialist for Career Services, received the 2021 Outstanding Business Foundations Graduate Student Award. Walker serves as USM AOP Treasurer.
Joyce Powell, assistant to the director, School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Professional Development, received the USM Gulf Park Outstanding Staff Award. Powell is 2021-22 AOP Vice President.
President Biden has aspirations for a new era of train travel. Amtrak supporters hope that a new line between New Orleans and Mobile, Alabama, is just the start. But major obstacles stand in the way.
A native of Pass Christian and a St. Stanislaus alum, Jeff Haeger comes to News 25 from right in our backyard. He most recently spent more than three years working as the sports reporter for WHLT-TV in Hattiesburg, where he provided extensive coverage of his alma mater, The University of Southern Mississippi. At Southern Miss, Jeff was a member of the Honors College and graduated with a B.A. degree in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Spanish. He also wrote for USM’s award-winning school newspaper, The Student Printz, where he won first place for Best Sports Story in 2013. Jeff loves to travel, and is excited to get back on the water to reunite with his family. In his spare time you can find Jeff spending time with his friends, and maybe even winning a fantasy football league. For sports stories contact Jeff at jhaeger@wxxv25.com.
