Search for USM Student Ongoing in Alabama

The University of Southern Mississippi has learned of the ongoing search for a student, Rob Brent, whom Alabama authorities believe went missing while swimming in the Gulf of Mexico at Alabama’s Dauphin Island. Brent was reported missing on Sunday evening.
“We are all terribly saddened by the news regarding Southern Miss student Rob Brent, and we have offered his family, friends and loved ones our heart-felt prayers and support,” said Dr. Dee Dee Anderson, Vice President for Student Affairs.

Whitaker received the award, which is given to young business leaders around the state, at a ceremony in Jackson Thursday. She said it was “an honor” to be recognized and to have the LINK’s work in regional economic development recognized.
“One of the quotes I heard years and years ago by a fellow developer was … ‘We do well by doing good,’” Whitaker said. “…I consider myself very fortunate to be able to say that.”

DAUPHIN ISLAND, Ala. (AP) Authorities said they have found no sign of a University of Southern Mississippi student who’s been missing since Sunday in the Gulf of Mexico off the Alabama coast.
Rob Brent was last seen while swimming off the southern shore of Dauphin Island. A friend reported him missing after he disappeared from sight.
The U.S. Coast Guard joined local authorities in a search, which has included aircraft, boats and teams combing the shore, but the water has been choppy and there’s no sign of Brent.

Crews searched nearly 1,800 square miles without finding any sign of Robert Brent, 20, of Yazoo County, Mississippi. He was last seen while swimming off the southern shore of Dauphin Island, and a friend reported him missing after he disappeared from sight.
The U.S. Coast Guard joined local authorities in a search, which has included aircraft, boats and teams combing the shore.
