JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (WDAM) - The University of Southern Mississippi’s hitting woes continued Friday night at Jim Case Stadium, as the Golden Eagles fell 6-0 to host Jacksonville State University.
USM suffered its first shutout since May 11, 2019, when the Golden Eagles lost at 4-0 at Rice University, and failed to score a run for just the third time over the past four springs.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - Four candidates have been certified to appear on the ballot for Mayor of Hattiesburg in the upcoming municipal elections.
Incumbent Mayor Toby Barker is running as an independent and will not appear on the primary ballot. He will face the candidate who wins the Democratic nomination for mayor.
Three Democrats, Vanessa J. Jones, Le’Keylah White and Stacy Daniels, will be running in the April 6 primary election.
Jones is a practicing attorney, veteran and former municipal judge who has lived in the city for more than 25 years.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - The University of Southern Mississippi earned a top 50 spot in the U.S. News & World Report ranking schools with the best online bachelorâs degree program for veterans.
According to the organization, the report recognizes schools that help veterans reduce the cost of school.
âThe university has just gone a long way to make it accessible and to adapt to the interests and needs of military students,â said Jeff Hammond, director of Military Student Affairs at USM.
Send Eliza Borné, the Little Rock native who became editor of Oxford American magazine at 28 and led it to renewed recognition, is leaving the quarterly this month to become director of development for the Central Arkansas Library System.
