Late last year, Dr. Frances Bartlett Kinne’s godson, Eric Nelson, presented President Joseph G. Joyner with a $100k generous gift from Dr. Kinne’s estate. The gift will be added to an endowed scholarship fund, established in 2003, which bears her name.
A distinguished educator, Kinne was president of Jacksonville University from 1979-1989, Chancellor from 1989-1994 and Chancellor Emeritus until her death in 2019. She received her doctor of philosophy from University of Frankfurt, in Germany, and an honorary degree from Flagler College, for her exemplary service to the college.
The recent gift to Flagler follows a long history of her fondness for and connection with Flagler and its administration, staff, faculty and students. A resident of St. Augustine since 1958, she reported eating with her husband in the Hotel Ponce de Leon dining room, years before the college was founded.
