University of Bradford student encourages young people to take the Covid-19 vaccine amid hesitancy

A STUDENT at the University of Bradford is encouraging young people across the district to take the Covid-19 vaccine when it is their turn. Although the vaccine roll-out is well underway, vaccine hesitancy remains an issue, according to Dr Javed Bashir, a safeguarding consultant at Bradford-based Strengthening Faith Institutions (SFI). He argues that some young people - particularly those from ethnic minority backgrounds - are still unsure about taking the vaccine. In the wake of this, one of the University of Bradford s community champions - who himself Faiz Ilyas, a civil and structural engineering student at the university, said he came to terms with his death and thought he was going to die after he was rushed to hospital with Covid-19 in March 2020.

Chevening Alumni aim to influence social change April 1, 2021 New executive committee of Chevening Uganda Helen Nanteza Kawesa, the recently-elected chairperson of the Chevening Alumni Association of Uganda (CAAU), says the organisation wants to impact on the lives of Ugandans for the long haul. Chevening is the UK government’s prestigious international scholarship and fellowship scheme aimed at developing global leaders. The Chevening scholarship funds a fully-paid one-year master’s degree in the UK. Since 1983, more than 250 Ugandans have benefited from the Chevening programme and include senior journalists, judges, lawyers, bankers, politicians, activists and civil society leaders, who in their CAAU umbrella association, aim to be society influencers to improve the economy.
