In any year, the deaths of great musicians, Hall of Fame athletes, elected officials, Civil Rights leaders, and others in the public arena are notable. But in 2020 one of the most bizarre years in history and certainly in recent memory those losses seem to take on even more significance. Added to a year of devastating pandemic, civil unrest, and political turmoil were the losses of individuals, young and old, who’ve had a meaningful impact on our lives. Some were well-known, others were not so well-known but they all will be missed. Here’s a list of notable deaths in 2020.

This land along the Lafitte Greenway near Jefferson Davis Parkway and Bayou St. John, acquired by developer Sidney Torres in 2015, is slated to become home to a âlifestyle centerâ that Torres is planning. Less than a month after graduating college with a degree in computer science, University of New Orleans student Rishav Rajendra will be starting his first job with one of the world’s most recognizable brands: Facebook.
Rajendra, who completed a 12-week internship with the company last summer, is headed to Menlo Park, Calif. to work at its headquarters. Because of COVID-19, Rajendra’s internship was performed remotely.
He starts work Jan. 4 and Rajendra said he’s excited about his position as a software engineer on the Facebook Watch team. Facebook Watch is a video-on-demand service.
“I mainly focus on streaming music videos, stuff like that,” he said. “If you go and search for a Taylor Swift song … I make sure that you find that video on top of the feed.”
LAFAYETTE – The University of Louisiana men’s basketball team was able to overcome a four-point halftime deficit to take down the University of New Orleans 73-63 at the Cajundome.
With the win, the Ragin’ Cajuns improved to 5-1 on the season and it was also the second win over the Privateers this season.
How It Happened:
After a back-and-forth first four minutes of the game, the Ragin’ Cajuns appeared to have taken control with a fast break layup off a turnover by Cedric Russell and then followed by a fast break layup by Mylik Wilson. With 14:38 left in the first period, UL held a 10-6 lead.
