Today, doctors and scientists across America at National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer centers and other organizations issued a joint statement urging the nation s health care systems, physicians, parents and children, and young adults to get the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination back on track.
Dramatic drops in annual well visits and immunizations during the COVID-19 pandemic have caused a significant vaccination gap and lag in vital preventive services among U.S. children and adolescents especially for the HPV vaccine. The pandemic also has exacerbated health disparities, leaving Black, Indigenous and other people of color; rural; and sexual minority adolescents at even greater risk for missed doses of this cancer prevention vaccine.

College, Fully Mobile
A college can offer the best online courses in the world, but it won’t do students any good if they lack an internet connection or an appropriate device. So I was intrigued to learn that Los Angeles Pacific University had developed a new app, “myLAPU,” that gives students full access to their courses on the go.
The idea is that students can complete and submit assignments in all of their courses without leaving the app. (They can also connect with university services, such as registering for courses and chatting with an academic coach.)
COVID restrictions hamper hospital’s recovery Written by Geoffrey Plant on February 8, 2021
Since an outside management company took over the day-to-day operations of Gila Regional Medical Center last year and successfully qualified it as a federally designated critical access hospital, the county-owned nonprofit’s financial outlook has started to improve.
Nonetheless, the pandemic and related restrictions are negating financial turnaround measures, according to HealthTechS3’s Scott Landrum, interim CEO for Gila Regional.
As a critical access hospital, Gila Regional is now entitled to far higher Medicaid patient care cost reimbursements, among other financial advantages. However, it would need normal volumes of patients to see the benefit of those increased payments, and that’s simply not in the cards right now.
