ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. Shovels could break ground early next year to turn the two-story parochial school attached to the old First Baptist Church Downtown into a modern bioscience lab for startup companies.
The University of New Mexico is finalizing a deal with California-based developer HatchSpaces LLC to take over the project as part of the Innovate ABQ high-tech research and development zone at Broadway and Central, executives from HatchSpaces told local community leaders in an online forum Thursday afternoon.
“We’re close to being able to formally announce the kick off of the project,” HatchSpaces principal Howard Kozloff told forum participants. “There’s just some ‘i’s’ still to dot and ‘t’s’ to cross.”
Hannah’s roots with the Lobos don’t stop there.
As a middle schooler, Hannah did individual training sessions with former Clovis High and UNM women’s star Antiesha Brown, whom she credits for helping to expand her basketball skill set.
“I went to a lot of UNM games and Antiesha Brown was my favorite player,” Hannah Robbins said in a phone interview. “I admired her game and I learned a lot from her. We worked on shooting and she taught me the Euro-step, which is something I use a lot.”
Brown, who played professionally in Europe after graduating from UNM in 2015, laughed when told of the glowing review. A 1,000-point scorer in college, Brown now works in real estate sales in Albuquerque.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- The University of New Mexico unveiled a new master plan for the old Baptist Church property at Central and Broadway.
Five new buildings, each between four and five stories tall, will be part of Innovate Albuquerque. They will provide new working space for research and start-up businesses.
The site would serve as the trail head for the city s new Rail Trail with space on the ground floors for retail shops, restaurants and breweries.
We re really thinking about mixes of use at the ground floor and the many spaces that are going to support that and also draw people in from outside the area, said Stephen Coulson of Perkins & Will architecture firm.
