LINCOLN How’d Billy get the gun?
It will be 140 years ago on Wednesday, April 28, that outlaw Billy the Kid shot jail guard J.W. Bell on a staircase in the Lincoln County Courthouse, setting in motion his escape from the gallows, and adding another layer of gloss to his legend.

Bell stumbled down the steps and out the courthouse’s back door before dying. Only moments before, the hapless guard and his prisoner, the Kid, had entered the building through that door after a visit to the outhouse.

LAS VEGAS, NM Judge Gerald E. Baca was sworn into office Friday as a judge of the state Court of Appeals.
In a virtual ceremony, Judge Baca took the oath of office in a courtroom at the San Miguel County Courthouse. Chief Justice Michael Vigil administered the oath from his office in the Supreme Court Building in Santa Fe.

The event is the centerpiece of UNM’s award-winning Dramatic Writing Program for MFA and undergraduate writers, led by artistic director Gregory Moss.

LAWRENCE The University of Kansas School of Education & Human Sciences welcomes Suzanne Robinson, associate professor in the Department of Special Education, as the 2021 Budig Teaching Professorship in Special Education award recipient and featured lecturer.
