What the team found, to be published this week in the journal Science, is that about 20,000 adult T. rexes probably lived at any one time, give or take a factor of 10, which is in the ballpark of what most of his colleagues guessed.

University of New Mexico baseball coach Ray Birmingham is retiring after the 2021 season, UNM announced on Sunday. (Roberto E. Rosales/Albuquerque Journal)
Ray Birmingham has spent 43 years building baseball programs in New Mexico. He’s decided that’s long enough.
The University of New Mexico’s 14-year coach made it official Sunday that he’ll retire at the end of this season. UNM announced Birmingham’s decision both on social media and on its athletic website. A media conference is scheduled for Monday at Santa Ana Star Field.
Birmingham has posted a 406-320-4 record with the Lobos and led them to five NCAA Regionals appearances, four Mountain West regular-season championships and three conference tournament titles. Prior to Birmingham’s arrival, UNM’s lone NCAA appearance was in 1962.
