Lobos finish spring football before stunningly large turnout

There was a genuine, loud gasp and an “Ohhhh,” heard from an estimated 4,769 fans when University of New Mexico running back Bobby Cole leaped high and flipped over defenders after a big run on Saturday at University Stadium. He jumped back up to his feet after the play. He was OK. The UNM football program looked just fine as well after a significant turnout on a warm and sunny afternoon for its Cherry & Silver Game, won 21-0 by the Silver, to end spring football practices. The fans were in masks, socially distanced and only on the home side of the stadium to follow COVID-19 guidelines.

Lobo volleyball pulls out heroic win to finish season at 4-10

It would have been easy to throw in the towel. With only seven semi-healthy players in uniform, the University of New Mexico volleyball team was on the ropes Saturday at the Pit. Already down 2 sets to 1, the Lobos trailed visiting Utah State 20-10 in the fourth, and their abbreviated spring season appeared to be all but over. UNM had a different ending in mind. Kaitlynn Biassou racked up a career-best 25 kills, and the Lobos rallied for a dramatic five-set win in their spring finale. The set scores were 25-21, 18-25, 15-25, 26-24 and 15-11. ...................... As it turned out, UNM coach Jon Newman-Gonchar needed the aforementioned towel after a soggy postgame celebration in the fan-free arena.

Researchers recently spent five months following two prides of lions living at the Makalali Game Reserve in South Africa and their findings give some idea as to why the weird phenomenon occurs. One of the study s senior authors Elisabetta Palagi, an ethologist at the University of Pisa in Pisa, Italy, noticed that lions catch each other s yawns. Team Effort Helps Lobos Complete Comeback to Close Season ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. Trailing 20-11 in the fourth set and 2-1 in the match to Utah State on Saturday afternoon in The Pit, The University of New Mexico rallied to not only force a fifth set, but to win the fifth set to conclude the season.
