As persistent drought and climate change threaten the Colorado River, several states that rely on the water acknowledge they likely won t get what they were promised a century ago.
But not Utah.
Republican lawmakers approved an entity that could push for more of Utah s share of water as seven Western states prepare to negotiate how to sustain a river serving 40 million people. Critics say the legislation, which the governor still must sign, could strengthen Utah s effort to complete a billion-dollar pipeline from a dwindling reservoir that s a key indicator of the river s health.
LAS VEGAS, Nev. The 11th-seed University of New Mexico men’s basketball team nearly upset sixth-seed Fresno State on Wednesday night in the first round of the 2021 Air Force Reserve Mountain West Tournament. The Lobos racked up a season-most 12 threes but ultimately fell 85-77 in head coach Paul Weir’s final contest at the helm of the Lobos.
New Mexico (6-16) was led by sophomore Jeremiah Francis III who posted a career-high 19 points, connecting on 6-of-8 from the floor while going a perfect 4-for-4 from deep. Francis III struggled from the floor for much of the season but found his footing when it counted in his final game of his inaugural season as a Lobo.
On Wednesday, Greg Romero and Ryan Regalado were elected ASUNM president and vice president for the upcoming 2021-22 school year.
The election marked another abysmally low voter turnout for the University of New Mexico, with only 874 voters (5.2%) out of a total of 16,662 eligible undergraduates participating in the election.
Romero received 341 votes, beating his closest opponent by more than seven percentage points: an impressive margin, given the four-way race. Regalado garnered almost the same number at 329, taking 37% of the vote.
