The State University of New York (SUNY) will use $24 million in federal stimulus funding to boost student mental health services at campuses across the state, Chancellor Jim Malatras said Friday at SUNY Brockport.
The money, part of SUNY s overall $481 million haul from the American Rescue Plan, will fund expanded counseling, telemedicine and peer-to-peer connections as well as safe spaces for LGBTQ students, Malatras said. It nearly doubles SUNY s previous mental health and wellness budget, bringing the total to $59 million. This will make sure that as we reopen all our campuses, our students can focus on the most important thing: learning to succeed in life, Malatras said.
