University of Maine Cooperative Extension and University of New Hampshire Extension will hold an online panel discussion about new vegetable varieties available for Northern New England gardens from 6â7 p.m. Jan. 13.
âExciting New Vegetable Varieties for Home Gardenersâ will feature Mark Hutton, UMaine Extension associate professor and state vegetable specialist; Becky Sideman, UNH Extension professor and sustainable horticulture state specialist; Heron Breen, area coordinator in charge of trials programs for Fedco Seeds; and Lauren Giroux, director of product selection and trialing at Johnnyâs Selected Seeds.

Here s some sweet news: Maple syrup may be one of the best healthy food trends of the year. According to New Hope Network, the industry enjoyed record-setting production, and consumer packaged sales rose 30 to 40 percent in 2020, compared to 2019. That s likely due to the demand for all-natural foods like natural sweeteners and a growing awareness of maple syrup s benefits. But is maple syrup healthy?
Maple syrup is one of my personal comfort foods. This distinctly flavorful, beautiful, and nutritious sweetener has been a staple ingredient in many households for generations, and it has a very long history.
The new year inevitably brings with it the idea of a fresh start and a chance to create new goals to work toward.
While goals are helpful any time, it’s typically around this time of year that many decide to take on new tasks to accomplish something they would like to change or improve. As you may very well know, these goals and aspirations often fall away before they are achieved.
