David was born in Portland to Helen (Warren) and Albert Knudsen. The youngest of three children, his early years were spent on the family’s farm in Gray until they moved to Portland, then South Portland, and Scarborough. After graduating from Scarborough High School in 1945, David served in the Army as a Signal Corps Radio Operator, including a short tour in South Korea. He continued on to college and received degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Maine (B.S., 1951), University of New Hampshire (M.S., 1965), and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Ph.D., 1972).

The Dave Nelsen Scholarship was established in 1999 as a way to remember and recognize the commitment to education made by OESP member Dave Nelsen. The scholarship is awarded to students or technicians who are currently or planning to attend a technical college or trade school, pursuing a career in the oil & energy industry.

Nine elected to Princeton Board of Trustees

The trustees are: • Blair Effron, Lori Dickerson Fouché and Bob Hugin, who were elected by the board to serve as charter trustees; • Timothy Kingston and Elizabeth Myers, who were elected by the board to serve as term trustees; • Marisa Demeo, Kathy Kiely and Kathryn Roth-Douquet, who were elected by alumni to serve as alumni trustees; and • Morgan Smith, who was elected by the junior and senior undergraduate classes and the two youngest alumni classes to serve four years as a young alumni trustee. Completing their terms as trustees on June 30 are Scott Berg, Class of 1971; Katherine Bradley, Class of 1986; Beth Cobert, Class of 1980; Yan Huo, Graduate Class of 1994; Ann Kirschner, Graduate Class of 1978; Melanie Lawson, Class of 1976; Laura Overdeck, Class of 1991; and Achille Tenkiang, Class of 2017.
