Varsities staff in KP stages massive protest against govt

PESHAWAR: The academic and non-academic staff of different universities Thursday staged a massive protest to press the government to withdraw the Higher Education Department’s letter to the public sector varsities and accept their other demands.
The teachers and other employees started gathering at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET)’s Chowk in the early morning and then launched a protest march towards the main Jamrud Road.
Chanting slogans and holding banners, the large number of protesting employees passed through Road No. 2 of the University of Peshawar, main Jamrud Road, Palosai Road and then entered the university from a separate gate.

The five-day online workshops were attended by film and mass communication students from universities across Pakistan including the National College of Arts, Indus Valley School of Art & Architecture, Fatimah Jinnah Women University, University of Peshawar, and Gilgit University.

MUZAFFARABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday sent his advice for induction of two senior lawyers in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to the bench of the region’s Supreme Court in a move to accomplish its sanctioned strength, officials confirmed.
According to the AJK Constitution, the AJK apex court comprises a CJ and two judges.
In a related development, the prime minister also sent his advice for confirmation of Justice Sadaqat Hussain Raja as permanent chief justice (CJ) of the AJK High Court. Justice Sadaqat, who is currently the only judge in the High Court, has been serving as acting CJ since May 11, a week after the death of his predecessor Raja Shiraz Kiani of brain paralysis.
Varsities staff asks KP govt to increase budget for higher education

PESHAWAR: The Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Associations (FAPUASA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter on Sunday asked the government to increase the budget for higher education to at least Rs 150 billion to ensure smooth functioning of the universities.
The demand was made in an emergency meeting of the association held at the University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar with its provincial president Prof Dr Shah Alam Khan in the chair. The meeting was attended by representatives of the faculty organizations of all the universities of the province.
