All storm water drains to be cleared of encroachments before monsoon, says LG secy

In view of the last yearâs monsoon tragedy in the city where many areas suffered urban flooding after the rains, the Sindh government will remove encroachments from all the storm water nullahs in the city and strengthen the drains before this yearâs monsoon season.
This was stated by Sindh Local Government Secretary Najam Ahmed Shah on Saturday as he chaired a meeting to review a project to be undertaken for removing encroachments from the Orangi Town drain and carrying out its re-modelling before the monsoon.

In a landmark achievement, two teams from Pakistan managed to secure top positions during the regional finals of Huawei’s Middle East ICT Competition 2020. The Pakistani teams acquired first and second positions in the ICT competition.
For the competition, a team from Ghulam Ishaq Khan (GIK) university was supervised by Dr. Ghulam Abbas. The team included Mohammad Inam, Uzair Ahmed, and Gulfam Hussain. They developed a cloud-based AI-application called ‘Wear-artificially’ which will allow users to virtually try on outfits. The app intends to make people’s experience of shopping from home easier amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

KARACHI: Responding to the criticism that Pakistan still had not placed an order for the coronavirus vaccine, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar Saturday said the vaccine would be made available by March.
He said this while addressing a joint press conference with Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Federal Information Technology Minister Amin-ul-Haque and other ministers here. We have not lied to the nation about vaccine procurement, Asad said, adding that it (the vaccine) would reach Pakistan by March.
Answering a question, he said as for the Sindh government’s complaint about shortfall in the NFC’s share, the provincial government and the Centre had their own arguments in this regard.

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Dec, 2020 ) :University of Engineering Technology (UET) Peshawar and ECO Enterprises (Pvt) Ltd on Tuesday signed a commercial licensing agreement of a project, Performance of confined dry block masonry against Blast loading , funded by HEC under the Technology Development Fund (TDF).
The ceremony was held with Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Hussain in chair, and attended by the senior officials from the school of Advanced Geo-mechanical Engineering (SAGE), Military School of Engineering (MCE), Risalpur and UETPeshawar, said a press release issued here.
The agreement was signed by Yaqoob Khan, CEO ECO Enterprises Pvt. Ltd and Dr. Tariq Khalil, Manager Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) UETPeshawar.
