Theetso Thuku believes in second chances. I do, too.
When the 24-year-old University of Central Oklahoma senior decided to retake my Media Ethics class, I was hopeful but skeptical. She couldn’t finish it the previous semester. From what I understood, her circumstances seemed daunting.
I didn’t realize how daunting until she agreed to an interview for this column.
The story of her journey to a place more than 9,000 miles away from home in Gaborone, the capital of Botswana in southern Africa, began on Sept. 14, 2016. On that day, her birthday, she received a letter stating she had been accepted into UCO.
