US hails Nigerian women for advancing global development

TODAY March 16, 2021 In commemoration of the 2021 Women’s History Month, the U.S. Embassy’s public affairs chief Aruna Amirthanayagam has acknowledged the importance of women in the leadership and economic growth of every country. Women’s History Month is celebrated during March in the U.S., the United Kingdom, and Australia, to mark the contributions of women to society. Mr. Amirthanayagam, in his opening remark at an event with the acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Stephen Okodudu, and the Rivers State chapter of the United States Government Exchange Alumni Association (USGEAA), said the non-inclusion of women in science advancements would lead to an unsustainable economy, a statement seen by newsmen read.

UNIPORT Lecturer Regains Freedom After Three Weeks Of Kidnap

  A senior lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, Dr. Jones Ayuwo who was kidnapped three weeks ago has regained freedom. Ayuwo, who lectures in the Department of Linguistics and Communications Studies, was kidnapped on his way from a function in his Local Government Area of Andoni, on February 21. His release by the abductors comes one week after students of the University, especially his students at the Department of Linguistics and Communication appealed for his unconditional release and sought immediate action from the security agencies, as well as the State and the federal governments. Kidnapped UNIPORT don regains freedom

Share A lecturer with the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Dr Joe Ayuwo, who was kidnapped on February 21, 2021 has been rescued by men of the Rivers State Command of the Nigerian police. The don was kidnapped on the same day as his traditional ruler, King Aaron Ikuru, King of Ikuru Town and Chairman Andoni Council of Traditional Rulers in Andoni local government. He is of the Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies of the University of Port Harcourt, Choba Rivers State and was abducted while at a function in Andoni Local Government Area. Nnamdi Omoni, the spokesman of the Rivers Police Command, said his release was made possible due to the intense and relentless pressure mounted by the police who had through technical intelligence, spotted the location of the kidnappers and was closing in on them.
