Bolton fans unveil remembrance flag for the Burnden 33

A BANNER to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Burnden Park Disaster has been installed at the University of Bolton Stadium - after fans came together to bring the idea to life. The flag contains the names of the 33 people who died as a result of the tragic human crush which occurred during the second leg of an FA Cup quarter-final tie against Stoke City on March 9, 1946, at Burnden Park. Some fans died after being crushed against steel barriers which gave way. Others were trampled during the tragedy - which became the deadliest stadium-related disaster in British history until the Ibrox Park disaster in 1971.

Salah: Is Liverpool forward Africa s greatest Premier League player?

This sort of debate, as is usually the case, tends to be subjective with opinions tending to vary. Two names who wouldn’t be in contention are Samuel Eto’o and George Weah, despite their obvious standing as Africa’s all-time greats. It’s a shame the pair didn’t grace the PL in their respective primes, with the Cameroon legend only moving to Chelsea months after his 32nd birthday in 2013. Liberia’s most-accomplished star did when he was 33, playing fewer than 20 games in total at the Blues and Manchester City at the turn of the millennium. Both players may be unsurpassed on any list of African greats, but they take a backseat when it’s narrowed down to Premier League football alone…they simply didn’t star in the division long enough or at their very best to be in contention.

Tributes for Bolton Wanderers FC ticket worker and loving dad

The former Bolton Wanderers ticket worker was 75 years old. Known as ‘Terry’, he was a wonderful husband to the late Sheila and a loving Dad to Angela, Karl, Shaun and Damian.  He was also a dear brother, a grandad to his 10 grandchildren and a great-grandad to six little ones. Born and bred in Bolton, Terry began his working life as a lorry driver. He then embarked on a career in ticket sales for his local team, Bolton Wanderers Football Club.  He worked his way up the ladder to become commercial manager, at both the Burnden Park grounds and later at the University of Bolton Stadium.
