University of Providence hosts graduation ceremonies

GREAT FALLS â On Saturday, University of Providence students, parents, and staff gathered to celebrate accomplishments during commencement ceremonies.
Along with this year s class, the events also honored students who graduated during the 2019/2020 academic year.
The university hosted two commencement ceremonies Saturday with Covid protocols in place including social distancing, masks, hand sanitizer stations, and limited guests.
Each student was able to invite four people to the ceremony, which was also live-streamed.
Officials at Great Falls College-MSU are preparing for commencement celebrations of their own. They ll host their ceremony Saturday, May 8th at 2 p.m. at the Montana Expo Park. There will also be measures in place including physical distancing and face masks.

Local wrestlers earn Blewett north- central Montana wrestling scholarships
Press release Alexander “Zander” Blewett III has awarded $2,000 in scholarships to the top student athlete wrestlers in north-central Montana. Michael Chagnon of Havre High School won two state championships. He earned a 3.8 GPA and will study engineering at some yet to be determined four year college. Rebecca Stroh of Chinook High School was the first female wrestler in Montana history to place at the B/C boy’s state wrestling tournament. She went on to place second this year in the first Montana state girls wrestling tournament. She earned a 3.5 GPA and plans to pursue a degree in agronomy at Montana State University.

Election day is set for Tuesday, May 4.
There are eight candidates vying for the school board position being vacated by current Trustee Theresa Schreiner. Schreiner s three year term expires this year and she is not seeking reelection.
The community members who have filed their candidacy with the Cascade County Elections office are Russell Herring, Scott Jablonski, Kevin Leatherbarrow, Nathan Reiff, Tucker Schleining, Dustin Shoemake, Genevieve Smyth and Marlee Sunchild.
Ballots must be received by the Cascade County Elections Office by election day, Tuesday, May 4 at 8 p.m.
