Sometimes it’s karaoke. Sometimes it’s multiplayer games like skribbl or Among Us. Whatever it is, middle-school student Tiggerina Virgen never skips her after-school program even though it means more time on Zoom.
During one meeting, Alejandrina Arizmendi-Ramírez, a recent college graduate who runs the sessions, found out that Tiggerina had an F in science. She quickly mobilized support for Tiggerina, making sure she submitted missing work and stayed on track. Tiggerina’s grade rose to a D. Then a C.

Dr. Charles “Chuck” Bowlus, professor emeritus of history at UA Little Rock, passed away Dec. 23, 2020, at the age of 82.
Bowlus was born in Iola, Kansas, to the late George and Jane Bowlus. He majored in chemistry as an undergraduate at the University of Kansas, but a fortuitous accident when he caused a fire in the chemistry lab led him to his true calling. Bowlus became a medievalist, completing his Ph.D. at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and specializing in medieval Europe and military history.
“He was the only medievalist I’ve ever met who sided with the peasants and not the aristocrats,” said Dr. Edward Anson, professor of history.

Short answer, “Yes.” Joseph Epstein’s answer: “Sort of, but…” On December 11 Epstein wrote “Is There a Doctor in the White House?” for the Wall Street Journal. He suggested that our impending “First Lady” should stop calling herself “Doctor Jill Biden.” Epstein once held the title of emeritus lecturer at Northwestern Western University. His name and title can no longer be found on the institution’s website. “While we firmly support academic freedom and freedom of expression,” Northwestern explained,” we do not agree with Mr. Epstein’s opinion and believe the designation of doctor is well deserved by anyone who has earned a Ph.D., an Ed.D. or an M.D.
