At that time, she was a few years into a tenure-track position at the University of Delaware. She knew that the fellowship would mean commuting to Washington, D.C., being away from her 4-year-old daughter during the week, and spending nights and weekends on her ongoing research.
However, Brown decided there might never be an ideal time for a fellowship, so she might as well take the plunge. Rather than let logistical challenges stand in her way, she took a leap of faith, one that she says changed her life.

Winners of Superintendent’s Awards typically have the recognition commemorated with a banquet dinner, but large gatherings are a no-no until the novel coronavirus is under control. Springfield City Council decides on process to fill vacant Ward 1 seat
Updated Mar 03, 2021;
SPRINGFIELD – The City Council, faced with the decision of filling the vacant Ward 1 seat on the council, voted Tuesday to have a fully public, transparent process to interview and select that person from among the five interested candidates.
Several councilors said it is unfortunate that the council, rather than the voters must pick the person to fill the seat, by law, due to the recent resignation of Ward 1 Councilor Adam Gomez, but decided that all deliberations should be open.
Gomez became the newly elected state senator in January, and decided in February to give up the council seat with 10 months remaining on his council term.
