JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - A record breaking day for the stateâs only childrenâs hospital. Even with the COVID-19 pandemic the Sanderson Farms Golf Tournament and Century Club Charities raised more than $1.4 million to support specialized health care for children in Mississippi. The Sanderson Farms Championship Golf Tournament was held during the COVID-19 pandemic and still raised a record breaking amount for the hospital. (Source: WLBT)

After a week of unsuccessful attempts to book an appointment for a Covid-19 vaccine, Katie Solovey’s parents turned to her for help.
The 34-year-old’s parents spend their winters in Siesta Key, Fla., part of Sarasota County, which is using Eventbrite Inc.’s ticketing platform to schedule vaccine appointments. The platform is familiar to Ms. Solovey, but not to some older people including her parents, who are in their 70s, she said. Her father was also using a first-generation iPad on a shaky wireless connection, making it hard to enter all the information required before the system timed him out.

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 1,227 new cases of the coronavirus and 19 coronavirus-related deaths on Sunday.
Since the virus hit the state in March, a total of 240,309 cases and 5,186 coronavirus-related deaths have been reported.
The department reported that as of Friday, the latest figures available, there were 1,402 current hospitalizations of confirmed cases, with 329 in intensive care and 219 on ventilators.
According to a New York Times database on Monday, at least 1,777 new coronavirus deaths and 208,338 new cases were reported in the U.S. Over the past week, there has been an average of 254,866 cases per day, an increase of 38% from the average two weeks earlier.
