WORTHINGTON More than 100 youths in grades 5 and above from southwest Minnesota counties, and a few from South Dakota, attended a six-day virtual course on “How to be a Super Sitter.”
The youths attended daily one-hour sessions, led by staff from University of Minnesota Extension. The sessions ranged from babysitting information to making a babysitting kit, baby care, first aid, nutritional snacks, kitchen safety, play, child development and do’s and don’ts.
The babysitting clinic was designed to help participants develop the knowledge and skills to be a super sitter. Youths discussed the job description of a babysitter, developed skills related to caring, entertaining, and managing hard-to-handle situations with children 0-12, received healthy snack recipes, learned about diapering, bathing, quick ideas and practiced handling emergency

“Building Bridges, Cultivating Connections,” the sixth annual Women in Ag Network Conference will be held virtually on February 3. Even though the conference will be virtual, the event will be a day of learning and networking for women involved in agriculture. The conference will be from 9 a.m. – 3:45 p.m.
Michele Payn, CSP will be the keynote speaker, with her presentation titled “Celebrating Agriculture”. Michele connects the people and science of food and farming as principal of Cause Matters Corp. She is known for being a community catalyst, a passionate advocate for global agriculture – and antagonizing people into action.

12/15/2020 Vertical tillage is a good tool for farmers who want to till, but still preserve residue. Like all tools, though, it has limitations. “In 2011, we dealt with a flood, and there were southwestern Manitoba areas that were typically no-till,” says Marla Riekman, a soil management specialist with Manitoba Agriculture’s ag resource branch who spoke at this week’s virtual Soil Management Summit (SMS) “People were in a panic about how they were going to deal with (plant into) all this residue and wet soils and they didn’t know what to do. So, they started trying vertical tillage.”
