Osterholm urges caution this holiday season
By Erica Bouska
This is not the time to let our collective guard down.
That’s the statement from Dr. Michael Osterholm, director of the University of Minnesota Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy and newly appointed member of President-Elect Joe Biden’s COVID-19 Advisory Board.“
This is the most dangerous moment in public health since the 1918 swine flu,” said Osterholm in a Thursday, Dec. 10 Driftless Journal interview.
The Waukon native and Luther College graduate said limiting physical contact with others and the number of people you see are necessary to remain safe this holiday season and beyond. To protect yourself and others from COVID-19, wear a face mask, practice social distancing and avoid breathing the same air space as people you aren’t in daily contact with. “People just have to understand this is not some hoax or politically motivated issue,” Osterholm said.
