HANGZHOU, China, May 24, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) UTStarcom (“UT” or the “Company”) (NASDAQ: UTSI), a global telecommunications infrastructure provider, today named Mr. Hua Li as the Company’s new Chief Executive Officer, effective June 16, 2021 and announced changes to the Board of Directors, effective May 19, 2021.

Mr. Li, a TDI nominee, brings nearly eight years of business and management experience to the Company. He previously served as the General Manager of Hangzhou Yi Yi Tai Di Information Technology Co., Ltd. Prior to that, Mr. Li served as the Deputy General Manager of Jiangsu Tongding Broadband Co., Ltd. Earlier, he served as Beijing office director of Jiangsu Tongding Optoelectronic Co., Ltd. He was awarded the senior engineer qualification by Zhejiang Software Industry Association in 2021. Mr. Li obtained a diploma of Communication Technology from the University of Electronic Science and Technology
China’s Fudan University to Set Up Campus in Budapest, Triggering Security Concerns

Hungary signed an agreement with Fudan University on April 27 to set up a campus in its capital city of Budapest. This will be Fudan’s only overseas campus and another Chinese university to establish a campus in Europe, following Beijing University in 2018 in the UK and Shanghai’s Tongji University in Italy in 2014. However, the joint initiative has raised security concerns among Hungarian lawmakers.
The New Campus Is Based on the BRI Investment Model
According to “official government documents” obtained in April by Hungarian media Direkt36, the Hungarian government plans to work with a major Chinese construction company to construct Fudan University’s new campus in Budapest. The construction is expected to be completed in 2024. Fudan University is based in Shanghai.

In 2000, then US president Bill Clinton famously said in a speech that he was confident the rise of the internet would push China towards democracy.
“There’s no question China has been trying to crack down on the internet,” he said. “Good luck. That’s sort of like trying to nail Jell-O to the wall.”
There were 22.5 million internet users in China in early 2001. By last year, that figure had ballooned to 989 million – more than three times the entire population of the United States and exceeding the 639 million internet users in India, according to the state-run China Internet Network Information Centre.
