COVID LATEST
The six-day-old transtasman bubble has suffered its first major setback.
Covid-19 Minister Chris Hipkins last night halted travel between New Zealand and Western Australia after Perth and a neighbouring region went into a three-day lockdown.
MAKKAH: Thousands of Saudi students each year travel across the globe to pursue their education, taking with them local traditions and customs. Many of them assimilate well into their new communities, often lending a hand and keeping the gift of giving alive.
From the UK, to the US and Australia, Saudi Arabia has appeared in mainstream news for various reasons. Looking away from the heavy news elements, Saudi students have appeared in smaller local news outlets, mostly for welcome integration in their new communities, and at times, for demonstrations of heroism, which are appreciated and respected by the community.
Compassion is an innate feeling found in many people, but for Saudis, it is an important and vital trait children are raised with as it represents the true spirit of Islam as part of their Islamic teachings.

Rental pressures force tenants to give up pets
The end of the rental eviction moratorium and a shortage of rental properties in Western Australia that allow pets has resulted in more people having to relinquish their pets to animal shelters.
Perth homelessness services are seeing more people experiencing homelessness because they cannot find a rental that will allow them to keep their pet.
“Through our research into homelessness I’ve met people living on the street with their dog as they cannot find crisis or long-term accommodation that will allow their pet.”

Australian National University has posted the second-largest deficit in the countryâs higher education history, suffering a $162 million shortfall last year as it was battered by the pandemic and its own policies to downsize international student enrolments.
However, the deficit is $57 million better than predicted thanks to a huge insurance payout after the campus was badly damaged by flood in 2018 and a massive hail storm in January 2020.
ANUâs lower-than-expected deficit stemmed from higher research income and tuition fees from domestic students. Â
Professor Brian Schmidt, ANUâs vice-chancellor said no more redundancies were planned beyond the 460 announced last year.
