AUGUSTA A 2-acre park hidden away in the heart of busy and heavily developed north Augusta, is getting spruced up by a combination of volunteers, businesses and the city.
Maintenance of Kennebec Valley Garden Club Park, created in the mid-1970s at the urging of the late philanthropist Elsie Viles, had fallen off in recent years. Many members of the regional garden club who took care of it previously grew older or busy with other projects to maintain the park that surrounds a 1-acre pond at the site between Civic Center Drive, University Drive and Commun

Belfast The University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) in partnership with the Penobscot Marine Museum presents Kosti Ruohomaa’s Beloved Maine with speakers Deanna Bonner-Ganter, author of Kosti Ruohomaa: The Photographer Poet, and Kevin Johnson, Penobscot Marine Museum photo archivist, who will delve into the life and work of this iconic Maine photographer Thursday, May 20, at 6 p.m. via Zoom.

The University of Maine at Augusta plans to hold two virtual commencement ceremonies to celebrate the classes of 2020 and 2021.
Last year, because of the pandemic, the class of 2020 commencement was postponed. This year CDC and state pandemic protocols continue to restrict large gatherings resulting in the virtual events.

Nearly 600 graduates in the class of 2020 will be honored through a commencement program that will premiere on YouTube at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 8. The class of 2021, with more than 500 graduates, will have its own commencement program on YouTube at 2 p.m. May 8. The links to view both virtual ceremonies will be available at uma.edu/commencement.
Former State Senator joins Worthington Scholarship Foundation Wed, 05/05/2021 - 4:30pm

ROCKLAND The Worthington Scholarship Foundation, with a mission to create a pathway to college for students throughout Maine, has hired Justin Chenette, of Saco, as its new program director.
Chenette spent nearly a decade in public office having served eight years in the legislature, with two terms in the Maine House of Representatives and two terms in the Maine Senate. At the time, Chenette was the youngest lawmaker in the entire country at age 21. Prior to that, Chenette made history as the first high school student appointed to the Maine State Board of Education and in college, was a congressional intern, according to the Foundation, in a news release.
