Student wins award in memory of Whitehaven doctor Olun Orugun Professor Dr Olu Orugun A Whitehaven-based student has been honoured for her commitment to local healthcare after winning an award in memory of a much-loved local doctor. Lucy Rowley is this year’s winner of the Olu Orugun Award, a prize that is a given annually to a physician associate student from the University of Central Lancashire to honour the late Dr Orugun, North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust’s associate medical director and consultant physician, who died in 2017. The award is given each year to a student who has shown dedication, compassion, teamwork and resilience in their work, qualities that Dr Orugun was known for during his time as a consultant physician based at the West Cumberland Hospital.

3D-printed exoskeleton could offer disabled children a helping hand 18 May 2021 Joseph Flaig Dr Matt Dickinson has built an exoskeleton using 3D-printed materials, and it s now being tested at Tinius Olsen Sometimes it takes a child’s question to highlight the obvious. The question for Dr Matt Dickinson from the University of Central Lancashire was: “Why is there not a special shirt that children can wear that will help them move?” The query and a rough design were provided by Christina, a school pupil taking part in the Primary Engineer competition, which combines children’s imagination with the engineering expertise of companies such as Rolls-Royce to find solutions to the world’s problems.
