LOUISIANA VACCINE DEMAND? Louisiana officials hailed the opening of a federal mass vaccination site in Baton Rouge fewer than two weeks ago. But Gov. John Bel Edwards said Thursday that the location isn’t seeing enough traffic from people seeking the thousands of coronavirus vaccine doses available. I will be the very first to tell you that the demand at that site is not what we need it to be, not what we hoped it to be, Edwards said. And we re working very hard with the city of Baton Rouge to try to make sure that more Louisianians take advantage of this opportunity.

A resolution calling on LSU to add the COVID-19 vaccine to its list of mandatory immunizations for students returning to campus this fall passed the LSU Faculty Senate 52-1 Thursday.
Inessa Bazayev, one of the professors who proposed the resolution, said 140 LSU faculty members had signed on to it out of concern about the potential health risks for them and their students.
Bazayev, an associate professor of music theory, said the resolution “prioritizes students’ safety by requiring students to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 prior to the start to fall 2021, given that LSU was planning on a return to face-to-face instruction in the fall, including for large classes.”
Applicants for the top job at Louisiana s flagship university will get their chance to impress a search committee during virtual interviews scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.
After months of looking for a new president-chancellor of Louisiana State University and the LSU System, committee members accepted a list of 23 applicants at a meeting Wednesday and narrowed that number to eight who will advance to the first round of interviews next week. Interviews will be streamed to the public.
The eight to be interviewed include notable local names such as state Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne and UL System President Jim Henderson. Another applicant with a Louisiana connection is Rustin M. Moore, a professor and dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University. Moore taught at LSU from 1996-2005.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) Eight candidates seeking to be Louisiana State University s next president were chosen Wednesday by a search committee for interviews, including the leader of another college system in the state and Gov. John Bel Edwards top budget adviser.
LSU is seeking a new president in the middle of a sexual misconduct scandal, which was seen as dampening interest in the job, which has been open since an interim president took over the position in January 2020.
The Advocate reports that 23 candidates submitted applications to oversee a system that includes colleges, medical schools, a law school and research institutions across the state. The president also works as chancellor of Louisiana’s flagship university in Baton Rouge.
