CHARLOTTE, N.C. Persistent systemic challenges continue to prevent people of color from securing home loans.
As WCNC Charlotte has reported, data shows most of Charlotte s largest lenders denied Black applicants two to three times more often than their white counterparts in 2018 and 2019.
Now WCNC Charlotte is partnering with local Carolina organizations to make a difference by spotlighting available community resources.
WCNC Charlotte hosted Bring It Home, a virtual, town hall event helping Black applicants overcome mortgage loan disparities. The live forum provided resources to securing down payment grants, credit counseling, and other tools for hopeful homebuyers.

Aquatic Advancement. A University of Arizona startup technology that measures the metabolic rate of aquatic animals has been licensed by biotechnology company IMV Technologies. GenetiRate, an assay technology invented by UA associate professor of animal and comparative biomedical sciences Benjamin Renquist, can measure the growth rate of animals like fish and crustaceans, making it very useful for the aquaculture industry. Their automated sorting technique can sort more than one million fish eggs per day, identifying the most productive and efficient animals. UVA Press Announces New Series The Black Soldier in War and Society
February 2021; Charlottesville, VA: The University of Virginia Press is pleased to announce “The Black Soldier in War and Society: New Narratives and Critical Perspectives,” a new series for innovative scholarship on the Black military experience to highlight the diverse and complex experiences of African-descended people and to explore the implications of their participation in war.
“We are delighted to welcome this important series to UVA Press,” said the Press’s director, Suzanne Morse Moomaw. “The books in it will highlight the enormous contributions of Black soldiers in protecting our freedoms over the centuries but also the racist challenges they faced in the military and in their communities back home.”
