On July 26, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas dismissed the latest case filed by Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA) against the University of Texas at Austin, challenging the university’s use of race in undergraduate college admissions. The court invoked the doctrine of
res judicata in holding that the case was barred by the previous case of
Fisher v. University of Texas, in which the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the university’s use of race as furthering the university’s compelling interest in the benefits of diverse student enrollments carried out in a narrowly tailored way.
