Thomas “Tom” J. Gordon 1929 - 2021 Thomas “Tom” J. Gordon GREELEY, Colo. Thomas “Tom” J. Gordon, 91, of Greeley, passed away Jan. 8, 2021, at his home in Greeley. Tom was born June 22, 1929 in Mountain View, Okla., to Thomas J. and Etta (Murray) Gordon. He married Wynona Webb on Oct. 7, 1951 in Annapolis, Maryland. They were married for 66 years. He was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelors’ degree in Chemistry. Tom moved to Great Bend, Kan., in 1954. He was the founder and President of Gordon Lab, Inc., an oilfield chemical company, for about 25 years. He was a member and officer of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the National Association of Corrosion Engineers, and member of the Board of Directors of the American Petroleum Institute, the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce and President of the Great Bend County Club. Colorado universities seek restoration of funding from lawmakers

Jason Gonzales Chalkbeat Colorado Fearful of extensive layoffs and potentially deep cuts to student services, leaders of Colorado’s public colleges and universities are pressing lawmakers to restore $493 million the state chopped off their budgets last year. Metropolitan State University of Denver President Janine Davidson said college presidents are presenting a united front on the restoration of funding because “at some point you have to say this isn’t working.” And Adams State University President Cheryl Lovell said colleges did their part in balancing budgets last year and a return to the 2019-20 funding level would be a positive step for colleges and their students.

Jamaican swimmer Antoinette Popp achieved her best performance at the 2021 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women s Swimming in St. George, Utah on Friday with a near personal-best 56.40 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke The 56.40-second clocking was recorded in the preliminary round where the University of Northern Colorado sophomore swimmer placed seventh to qualify for her first-ever championship final. In the final, Popped touched the wall in a time of 57.20 seconds for eighth place. Maude Boily-Dufour, of the New Mexico State swimming team, held off challengers from Idaho’s Katie Hale (54.63)  and Northern Colorado’s Madelyn Moore (54.66)  to win her first individual title in the event. Her 54.04 in the race is a new program record.
