North Dakota universities don’t plan on requiring COVID-19 vaccine
Dylan Sherman
BISMARCK Universities in North Dakota have required students to get certain vaccines, but the COVID-19 vaccine will not be one of them.
Across the nation universities are facing similar dilemmas, with responses ranging from requiring students to receive the vaccine to making it a recommendation.
Jerry Rostad, vice chancellor for the North Dakota University System, said they are doing everything they can to encourage students and staff to get vaccinated.
“When you look at what the Centers for Disease Control and our public health officials are saying, vaccinations are important in developing herd immunity in the fight against COVID-19,” he said.

– University of North Dakota head football coach Bubba Schweigert was named as a Stats Perform FCS Eddie Robinson Award finalist on Monday, an award presented annually to the top coach in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
Schweigert, a two-time AFCA Coach of the Region for Region 5 at both the Division I (2016) and Division II (2005) levels, has secured his second finalist nomination for the award after leading the Fighting Hawks to new heights in the 2020-21 season.
The Zeeland, N.D., native helped UND to its second conference championship at the Division I level this past year, becoming the first team in Missouri Valley Football Conference history to capture the league crown in its first year in the conference since the league’s inception in 1985.
