Oregon Institute of Technology (Oregon Tech) conducted a nationwide search and is pleased to welcome John Harman as the new vice president for Finance and Administration (VPFA). Mr. Harman will start at Oregon Tech on March 1, 2021.
Oregon Tech president Dr. Nagi Naganathan said, “In this critical role, Mr. Harman will oversee the university’s financial and information technology resources and capital initiatives, and his experience will be integral in helping to strengthen and align central administrative and financial functions with the university s core mission of teaching, research, and service. Clinical researchers, medical professionals and other scientific minds often spend their days speaking with and listening to complex, elevated language. However, these professionals frequently need to discuss their work to public officials, patients, and other individuals, and it can be a challenge for life-sciences experts to bring technical talk down closer to a layman’s level which is necessary to make other understand.
To that end, the American Heart Association (AHA) has joined with the Compassionate Practice team at TCU and UNTHSC School of Medicine to offer the Heart of Communicating Science, a series of training modules geared toward helping scientists talk about and explain their work in ways that non-scientists can more readily grasp

A lyric from a 1970s rock song proclaims, “In life one and one don t make two; One and one make one.” Chris and Caitlynn Meek, who met because of a mathematics class at The University of Texas at Arlington, would certainly agree with that equation.
Caitlynn and Chris met in a pre-calculus lab that neither of them originally intended to take, and being acquaintances turned into a platonic friendship and, eventually, into a relationship. They got engaged in October 2019, after dating for two years (“It felt like a few days,” Caitlynn says). They made it official this past summer with a wedding attended by family and a small group of their closest friends.
