Cebu, Mindanao state universities open medicine programs to scholars
Cebu Normal University-Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (CNU-VSMMC) and Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) have been granted permission to offer the doctor of medicine program beginning schoolyear 2021-2022.
Cebu Normal University-Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (CNU-VSMMC) and Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) will start offering doctor of medicine programs in the next school year after receiving approval from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
The CNU-VSMMC and WMSU join eight state universities offering doctor of medicine programs, including the University of Northern Philippines, Mariano Marcos State University, Cagayan State University, Bicol University, West Visayas State University, University of the Philippines Manila School of Health Sciences in Leyte, Mindanao State University, University of the Philippines-Manila.

In support of “Doktor Para sa Bayan” and Universal Health Care laws, CHED allowed Cebu Normal University-Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (CNU-VSMMC) and Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) to offer a Doctor of Medicine Program effective Academic Year (AY) 2021-2022.
“The new Doctor of Medicine program in these two SUCs will expand the opportunities for the poor but deserving students through scholarship support under the Doktor Para sa Bayan Act,” said CHED Chairman J. Prospero E. De Vera III on Wednesday, May 12.
De Vera explained that the Duterte administration will “produce more doctors through our top SUCs, who will go to underserved areas and local governments in need of health personnel.”
