Jacksonville has become a hot spot in Florida for COVID-19 hospitalizations. A day after reporting 32 new patients in a 24-hour period, Baptist Health on Wednesday reported 61 new COVID-19-positive patients four of them children admitted on Tuesday.  Northeast Florida has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, but it’s never been as bad as it is now, wrote Michael A. Mayo, CEO of Baptist Health in a recent Facebook post. Baptist Health is seeing an all-time high of COVID-19 hospitalizations, Mayo continued. Our hard-working health care workers have fought hard against this virus for more than a year. But this latest surge has led to a truly critical moment for our community.

Hundreds of athletes were seen in line Tuesday morning at the University of North Florida, where the competition takes place. Thousands of athletes ranging in age from 7 to 18 are registered for the event, which runs until Sunday. “Having to get tested every day is very worth it because there’s a lot of people that are going to be watching you,” said Ra’Kia Williams, an athlete.
