The University of North Florida s fourth president and only woman president in the school s 49-year history, has died.
Anne Hopkins passed away over the weekend, UNF confirmed Tuesday through a press release. She was 79-years-old and would have celebrated her 80th birthday next month.
Hopkins was born in 1941 and later attended Syracuse University, where she earned her bachelor s, masters and doctoral degrees in political science. She began her academic career in 1968 as an assistant professor and chair of political science at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in New York, according to UNF.
Before landing at the Jacksonville school, Hopkins served as the provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Miami University in Ohio. She also held leadership roles at the University of Minnesota and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
