Nominated as Judge by Trump, Cancelled by Biden, Know About Indian-American Advocate Vijay Shanker
FOLLOW US ON:
US President Joe Biden on Thursday withdrew the nomination of Indian-American advocate Vijay Shanker to be an Associate Judge of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. Shanker was renominated for this top judiciary position by former President Donald Trump on January 2, two months after he lost the presidential elections and just a little over a fortnight before Biden was sworn in as the 46th President of the United States on January 20.
The withdrawal notification was sent to the Senate along with more than 30 such names, mostly judicial appointments announced during the last months of the Trump administration. Trump had first announced his nomination last June. Currently he serves as Senior Litigation Counsel in the Department of Justice, Criminal Division, and as Deputy Chief of the Appellate Section.
U.S. Sens. Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper have recommended the White House nominate Regina M. Rodriguez to be a federal district judge in Colorado, and have presented six candidates for the positions of U.S. Attorney and U.S. Marshal, including the city attorney of Denver and two county sheriffs.
âThese positions are vital to ensuring we have a fair criminal justice and judicial system that protects public safety, promotes equity, and upholds the rule of law,â wrote Hickenlooper and Bennet to President Joe Biden on Wednesday. âWe believe that this diverse group of attorneys and law enforcement officials represent some of the most thoughtful, dynamic, and hard-working leaders in our state. Weâre confident that theyâll serve the people of Colorado with humility and integrity.â
