Writing the Book On Religious Freedom in the Workplace: ACLJ Files Comments in Support of EEOC s Updated Compliance Manual on Religious Discrimination

Writing the Book On Religious Freedom in the WorkplaceBy Geoffrey Surtees16094349870261609434987026 Does a person of faith have to leave his religious commitments at home when he enters the workplace? Does he have to place job duties ahead of his religious ones? What if an employer assigns a task that would require one to violate one’s religious beliefs? Unfortunately, far too many people (both employers and employees alike) think that religion and the workplace should never mix. They believe that whatever management says, goes; and if the employee doesn’t like it even if it requires him to act contrary to his religious principles then that individual should just work someplace else. Some have even asserted that if a doctor, nurse, or pharmacist refuses to participate in certain procedures or to dispense specific drugs (including abortion-related drugs such as RU-486 or Plan B), then that person should pursue another career entirely.

Cindy Wamsganz, the first person to receive a COVID-19 vaccine in Vermont This backstory is a part of a collection of articles that describes some of the obstacles that Seven Days reporters faced while pursuing Vermont news, events and people in 2020. Reporters weren t allowed into the University of Vermont Medical Center to watch Vermont s first COVID-19 vaccination, but the hospital livestreamed the event. So I stood at my kitchen counter, headphones on, taking notes as health officials discussed its momentous nature. The camera panned to emergency department nurse Cindy Wamsganz, who was seated in front of a plastic banner bearing the hospital s name. She rolled up her sleeve. A nurse swabbed a spot on her upper arm, then plunged in a needle.

Valley News - Judge sides with DHMC in fired doctor s lawsuit

Judge sides with DHMC in fired doctor’s lawsuit Modified: 12/26/2020 10:06:55 PM LEBANON A federal judge has granted summary judgment for Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in a suit brought against the hospital by a fertility doctor who alleged it wrongfully terminated her when the Reproductive Endocrinology Program there closed in 2017. Vermont District Court Chief Judge Geoffrey Crawford’s Nov. 3 decision acknowledged that the REI program was “dysfunctional” due to conflict between the providers there before it was dissolved. But Crawford said that’s not sufficient to support Dr. Misty Blanchette Porter’s claims that her firing was in retaliation for her being a whistleblower or because she had a neurological condition that required her to work limited hours and with accommodations.
