Rotary Club of Ibadan Prestige, on Thursday, sensitises expectant mothers, an effort aimed at reducing infant and maternal mortality rate.
The event which was held at the Primary Health care Center, Ago Tappa, Mokola Ibadan, was equally aimed at creating awareness on the importance of immunization to pregnant women and their children.
The club as part of his gesture also distributed birth kits to pregnant women.
Speaking at the event the charter president of the club, Rotarian Folake Ladeinde, explained that the programme is aimed at reducing the maternal mortality rate.
While she also added that event was also organised in celebration of the Club month’s theme “maternal and child health.”
Dr Temitope Hussein, an official of the association, said other issues also included the non-enrolment of some members into the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, (IPPIS), which was affecting payment of their emoluments.
The national body of the association, National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), had in April suspended its indefinite strike after ten days.
NARD had cited “new agreement reached with the Federal Government” as the reason for suspending the strike.
The doctors had demanded, amongst other things, payment of all salary arrears and review of the current hazard allowance to 50 per cent of consolidated basic salaries for all health workers. (NAN)

The renowned virologist, known for his groundbreaking work on HIV/AIDS said the depopulation claims about the COVID vaccines is nothing but mischief aimed to discourage the people from benefiting from science. “There is deliberate or let me say direct mischief on the part of the group parading the false information about the COVID 19 vaccine. “To me, it is not surprising, it usually happens when vaccines are developed, you remember the polio vaccine, people said a lot of things, they used politicians and religious people to try to dissuade people from submitting their children for the vaccine but at the end of the day, we had to engage thought leaders in the communities.
