Ministers discussing 2035 cut-off date after which installation of conventional gas boilers will be outlawed
It comes amid growing concern about the impact of domestic heating systems on the UK s carbon emissions
But alternative energy options are hugely expensive, with ground source heat pumps costing up to £19,000
Solar panels or water heating are £5,000 and biomass boilers at £5,000 to £19,000 depending on the type
Air source heat pumps come in at £11,000 while the cost of hydrogen boilers could be from £1,500 to £5,000

Danger zone? The ‘new safe confinement’ over the reactor at Chernobyl (Simon Calder)
Scientists in Ukraine were alarmed last week to encounter unexpected fission reactions erupting deep within the bowels of the abandoned Chernobyl power plant, scene of the world’s worst nuclear disaster when a spectacular meltdown occurred on 26 April 1986, leading to mass evacuations and a failed Soviet cover-up.
Experts from the Institute for Safety Problems of Nuclear Power Plants (ISPNPP) in Kiev reported a 40 per cent increase in neutron emissions from 2016 levels in a chamber rendered inaccessible by the catastrophe.
The activity is seemingly the fault of the New Confinement Shelter that was erected to cover the former reactor site five years ago, a giant steel arch structure that, unlike its shoddier predecessor, prevents rainwater entering, unwittingly eliminating a key element that turns out to have played a role in suppressing the neutrons.
Bill Gates, while motivated to help fight climate change, has also long been trying to make a success of his nuclear technology company Terra Power. The climate emergency presents him with the perfect opportunity to promote this, and especially, to get tax–payer funding to do it, as he suggests in his new book.
Elon Musk and Bill Gates: beware of gurus toting solutions to climate change
Elon Musk has grand plans to save the world. Bill Gates has just published his book ”How To Avoid a Climate Disaster”. They both envisage tax-payer funding for their solutions. But beware of gurus toting the solution to the planet’s crisis.
Adopting policies that are consistent with achieving the Paris Agreement and prioritize health, could annually save 6.4 million lives due to healthier.
Poseidon Principles signatories release their 1st green financing report December 16, 2020, by Jasmina Ovcina
The first disclosure report from the 15 signatories of the Poseidon Principles shows that the ship finance portfolios of three banks are aligned with the UN decarbonization targets while those of the remaining 12 banks are not.
The climate assessment offers banks new insight into their lending decisions and the climate alignment score of their ship finance portfolios. The portfolio assessment builds on 2019 emissions data from shipping clients compared to a decarbonization trajectory for the same year. The average score was +1.2%, with scores ranging from -44.92% to +32%. The average climate alignment score of reporting signatories was broadly in line with the 4th IMO GHG study, while of the misaligned signatories, half had a score of +5% or less.
