Fears of virus surge arise
ASHLEY SLOBODA | The Journal Gazette
As spring beckons to students and their families, Allen County health officials are urging residents to remain vigilant with coronavirus precautions even as cases decrease and vaccinations increase.
“There is light at the end of the tunnel, but it s still too early to abandon practices that have worked to reduce the spread of COVID-19,” Allen County Health Commissioner Dr. Matthew Sutter said in a statement.
Purdue University Fort Wayne is scheduled to begin its spring break today. The four Allen County school districts planned their spring breaks for early April.

Coliseum likely to benefit from NCAA bounty
If 2020 was a fading jumper that struck the rim and bounced out as time expired, this year is beginning with a slam dunk.
Included in the announcement Monday that the NCAA will hold one of its marquee events – the Division I men s basketball tournament – entirely in Indiana was the detail that Fort Wayne will host a lower-level basketball championship at Memorial Coliseum in the spring.
That s not new – Fort Wayne had been slated to host the Division III men s Final Four through 2026. But after a disastrous year that because of the coronavirus saw nearly everything canceled at one of northeast Indiana s busiest sports and performance venues, the news is a welcome acknowledgment that basketball will be played at the Coliseum in 2021.
