Tokyo, Jan. 17 (Jiji Press) Japan s two-day new unified university entrance examination ended on Sunday, with measures against the novel coronavirus, such as requiring all test-takers to wear face masks, implemented during a state of emergency covering 11 prefectures.
In the two-day exam, which replaced the National Center Test for University Admissions, mathematics and science tests took place on the second day on Sunday, after the subjects of Japanese, foreign languages and geography, history and civics were covered on Saturday.
According to the National Center for University Entrance Examinations, one test-taker in Tokyo was disqualified after repeatedly ignoring exam supervisors instructions to cover the nose with the mask. Also, three were disqualified for cheating and other reasons.

While the test has some 530,000 applicants, including high school third-graders, the education ministry and the National Center for University Entrance Examinations are advising them to apply for a substitute exam if they have health issues. The new test, which replaces the National Center Test for University Admissions for the first time this year, will also be held on 30-31 January as a special measure in response to a delay in study due to temporary closures of high schools last year amid the pandemic. The later test, for which 718 people have applied, will also serve as a substitute exam for those who will miss the exam on Saturday and Sunda

Japan s new unified university entrance exams started Saturday across the country, with organizers taking anti-coronavirus measures, such as requiring test-takers to wear masks and disinfect their hands, and ensuring that venues are well ventilated.
The exams, which replaced the National Center Test for University Admissions, drew a total of 535,245 applicants and are taking place at 681 venues, according to the National Center for University Entrance Examinations.
